There is NO job action planned
at this time.
The rumor that there is a job action on Tuesday,
June 14, 2011
IS NOT CORRECT.
Do not waste your valuable vacation time based on
a rumor.
SBPEA will give advance notice of any job
actions.
We are awaiting the arbitration of the County's
intended reduction in work hours. The decision is more than 30
days away and the county has agreed not to implement any
reduction in work hours until the arbitrator's decision
has been received.

Agreement Reached Regarding Arbitration of
Work Hour Reductions in the County
An
agreement has been reached for binding arbitration on the
question of whether the County has the right to reduce the work
hours for County employees represented by SBPEA.
The
agreement provides that
NO WORK HOUR REDUCTIONS WILL
OCCUR
before the County receives the Arbitrator's decision.
In
accordance with the agreement, the County and SBPEA will select
a mutually acceptable arbitrator and proceed to arbitration in a
reasonable amount of time.
How to Balance the County Budget Deficit
STOP HIRING
STOP SPENDING
SBPEA members began granting concessions
to help the County with its deficit in July 2009.
For the fiscal year 2009-2010, SBPEA members
gave $25.9 million to the County to solve that years deficit.
For the fiscal year 2010-2011, SBPEA members
gave $47.7 million to the County to solve that years deficit.
In addition to giving up previously negotiated pay raises SBPEA
members voted to suspend tuition reimbursements, suspend
retirement medical trust payments, suspend employer matching 457
payments, and reduce merit increases giving an additional $7.1
million and the County agreed to eliminate temporary help that
would have saved $4.6 million if it had been done as agreed.
In 2008, SBPEA members agreed to significant reductions in
the County contribution toward retirement.
The concessions for the last two years were
more than $85 million!
SBPEA also agreed to more flexible use of existing employees,
enabling the County to significantly reduce hiring. Since that
agreement, the County has hired almost 1,000 new employees in
our units alone, with a total cost of over $46 million per year.
The County continues to spend money like there is no deficit!
The economy is slowly recovering. If the County stops hiring and
stops spending, the deficit will resolve itself and
there is no need to
reduce services to the public!
Rumor Control for County
SBPEA
Members
The
SBPEA MOU with the County does not expire until June 2014.
There is a 3% salary increase due on July 3, 2011, and SBPEA
Members have already agreed to mitigate that raise, effectively
reducing it to 1.1% for one year even after receiving no raises
for almost 3 years.
There is no intent to eliminate that increase or
make any further concessions at this time.
SBPEA members have already given millions of dollars in
concessions over the last two years while other County employees
took raises and refused to help with the deficit, and the County
did not even attempt to live up to their promises made in return
for our concessions.
Now
the County has imposed or negotiated meaningless agreements that
preserve those raises for others and present no real savings,
but they want SBPEA members to shoulder the burden again while
other employees are spared and/or rewarded.
The
County clearly needs nothing from
SBPEA represented employees
to
offset the alleged budget deficit
since it continues to hire and spend at a brisk pace.
SBPEA
is NOT in negotiations with the County.
There is NO vote pending and no concessions being considered.

The LLRMH
Wish List
In order to provide necessities for the
families they support, LLRMH needs your help! Many
times, families aren’t able to leave the hospital for
hours or days on end and often miss set meal times at
LLRMH. They sit for long hours at their child's bedside
writing thank you notes and update letters to families
and friends. After all the surgeries, therapies, and
treatments, parents sometimes get a chance to “get away”
to see a movie. Please click on the flyer to the right
