Just days before the election, San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chairman Josie Gonzales appeared confident during a pair of fundraisers. In her speeches to supporters, she discussed the board’s relationship with employee unions. Gonzales declared, “We are the parents. They are the children.” She was trying to explain to one mostly Republican audience in particular that the board of supervisors tells the unions what to do in reference to their members. by AdministratorMore than a year ago, a small group of San Bernardino County general employees contacted the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for help with a potential decertification campaign against their union, the San Bernardino Public Employees Association. They have been working quietly behind the scenes toward that goal. IBEW representative Stan Stosel agreed to answer questions for a series of articles to explain the process and the changes such a campaign could bring about. This is the second article in the series. by AdministratorUnion relations in a down economy are always a challenge. In San Bernardino County, which is known as “California’s most corrupt county,” the term “challenge” could not be more understated. Not only is there the traditional grandstanding and drawing lines in the sand, but in a county so ethically challenged, imaginary lines are crossed and sometimes ethical and legal ones too. First, there is the Elected Officials Pay Reduction Act. At this point, I must make full disclosure and say that I was actively involved in its creation and qualification for the ballot. by AdministratorGOOD NEWS COUNTY EMPLOYEES!!!!! GUESS WHAT? We actually have the opportunity to get rid of our current association, SBPEA. Yes, that is right, we can actually have a real union that fights for us and represents us the way a real union is suppose to represent members.
by AdministratorThere is a rumor coming from the Fifth Floor. In part it makes total sense and in part I cannot believe even the crooks we have voted into office would go this far. The general belief is that our BOS Pay Reduction Act will be easily passed by the voters this November. We hear it is being used as one of the excuses for the county to file bankruptcy.
by AdministratorThat must be what has happened since there is no other excuse for San Bernardino Public Employees Association General Manager Bob Blough and I being on the same side of any issue. SBPEA has endorsed our part-time Board of Supervisors initiative. Now, logically, it should have happened. It is just hard to believe that Bob did not allow our personal differences to get in the way of doing what is best for the employees he represents. All I can say is WOW!
