Examiner.com: Bono Mack urges residents to participate in “Prescription Drug Take Back Day”

(Palm Springs) – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), who has been a strong backer in the effort to curb prescription drug abuse, issued a press release today in support of “Prescription Drug Take Back Day.”  Bono Mack is the co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse.

Coachella Valley residents can take part in the program that is being held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at six locations in Palm Springs. The event is the result of a collaborative effort between diverse stakeholders, including the Collaborating and Acting Responsibly to Ensure Safety (C.A.R.E.S.) Alliance, the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the American Academy of Pain Management, Project Lazarus, Walgreens, and the Palm Springs Police Department.

“Prescription drug take back days play an important role in our communities,” Bono Mack said.  “All too often, unused prescription medications fall into the hands of children resulting in abuse, addiction, and even death.

Examiner.com: Bono Mack to discuss Houston’s death in push against prescription drug abuse

(Palm Springs) – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) will appear live on CNN’s “Starting Point” Tuesday morning with Soledad O’Brien.  She will be discussing the death of singer Whitney Houston.

Bono Mack is the Co-Chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse.  She plans to hold congressional hearings on prescription drug abuse in the coming months.

“Like so many others, I was deeply saddened to learn of Whitney Houston’s death.  As a singer and entertainer, she was such a unique talent and had an unforgettable, once-in-a-generation voice,” said Bono Mack in a statement issued today.
