The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to review the recommendation of the Sheriff’s Appointment Ad-Hoc Committee and appoint a new sheriff on Tuesday. The committee consists of Chairman Josie Gonzales and Fourth District Supervisor Gary Ovitt, which is rather fitting. Both have been the subject of state and federal criminal investigations in recent years─in other words, exactly the type of individuals one would want to recommend the next sheriff. Why not? San Bernardino County is known as “California’s Most Corrupt County.” For the sake of brevity, I will not once again list the number of investigations, arrests and convictions of elected officials and their aides that have occurred in the past two decades.
