I hope to have an actual Examiner article out tomorrow but I thought I would write the “rest of the story” tonight. Last week I attended the meeting in Barstow attended by Presiding Judge Slough, Bev Lowry and Phil Paule from Supervisor James Ramos’ office and Don Holland from Robert Lovingood’s office. There were other officials there as well but these were the key players.
by AdministratorI cannot confirm yet, or it would be an Examiner story, but I’m told that there will be a meeting at the Harvey House on Tuesday, Jan. 22 with a rep from the governor’s office and the SBCo. presiding judge in reference to closure of the Barstow Courthouse. It is at 4:30. If anyone has any information, it would be appreciated. Yes, I have checked the Desert Dispatch, the Chamber of Commerce, the city of Barstow and the Superior Court website. There is nothing on any of them. I don’t think they want you to know.
by AdministratorSan Bernardino County Presiding Judge Marsha Slough announced today that the Barstow Courthouse will shut down effective May 6, 2013. It is the latest in cost-savings measures implemented to deal with a $22 million cut to the budget by the state. “The severe funding cuts made to our budget result in the need to take these painful steps. We are cognizant of the impact that these actions will have upon the bar and citizens of this county who have business in the court, especially for people who live some distance from the remaining courthouses. The simple fact is that we can no longer afford to support as many court locations, or support as many services as in the past,” said Judge Slough. To read the rest of the story, click here.
