    • iePolitics: Where are the grammar police when you need them?

As soon as I hit the “publish” button on my last story, I realized there was a grammatical error in the title.  Or was there? I changed it.  But which is correct “Friends of Freddie find” or “Friends of Freddie finds”? My argument is that “Friends of Freddie” is a singular organization, so it should take “finds.”  But then again, it sounds funny.

    • Examiner.com: Friends of Freddie finds ‘furever” families for forgotten felines and fidos

(Devore) – Missy Cunningham is a lady with a mission.  That mission began about 10.5 years ago when she found Freddie, along with her littermates, in a box on the side of a busy road. Freddie was Cunningham’s faithful companion for the next 8.5 years until she died suddenly from cancer in 2010.  Cunningham created “Friends of Freddie” on Facebook as a tribute page and began focusing almost exclusively on the Devore Animal Shelter last June. Devore Animal Shelter is San Bernardino County’s main animal detention facility.  It is hidden in the foothills above the San Bernardino Valley in Southern California’s Inland Empire and cannot be seen from any main road or highway. • Examiner.com: Heavy hitters hand out endorsements in San Bernardino County board races

(San Bernardino) – Congressman Gary Miller (R-42) announced his endorsement of San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor Neil Derry.  His is the latest in a series of heavy hitters making endorsements in county supervisor races. “I am proud to endorse the re-election of San Bernardino County Supervisor Neil Derry, said Congressman Miller.  “He is an honest, responsive and effective representative for the residents of District 3.” “Neil shares my strong opposition to higher taxes and wasteful government bureaucracy,” continued Miller.   “As Supervisor, Neil is working to make San Bernardino County more business friendly by reducing costly government regulations, protecting local jobs and helping 3rd District communities attract new employers.” To read the rest of the story, click here.

    • iePolitics: How the heck do you get suspended for 72 days and get promoted too?

Here is the latest for all of you to confirm, deny, or clarify: Sgt. Emmons, who has been in trouble so many times that his total number of days of suspension numbers 72, has been promoted to lieutenant. Sgt. Manny Mendoza of POST fame has also been promoted. There is a big internal investigation going on that we believe has to do with the Major Narcotics Team. Did I mention that Paul Schrader plans to run again?

In the last two days I have had two very unusual phone calls.  In both cases I was advised of some interesting things going on in the First District.  If what I was told is true, one or both situations could be game changers for the First Supervisorial District and the Eighth Congressional District races.

    • Examiner.com: Dutton introduces legislation to combat fraud in food stamp program

(Rancho Cucamonga)  – Senator Robert Dutton (R-31) announced on Tuesday that he has introduced Senate Bill 1074.  The bill will combat fraud, waste and abuse in the state’s food stamp program, now called the Cal Fresh program, by requiring that anyone applying for the program be fingerprinted before receiving assistance. California was one of only three states to require food stamp applicants to be fingerprinted.  The requirement ended on January 1 of this year after Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 6 into law last October. (Palm Springs) – Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), who has been a strong backer in the effort to curb prescription drug abuse, issued a press release today in support of “Prescription Drug Take Back Day.”  Bono Mack is the co-chairman of the Congressional Caucus on Prescription Drug Abuse. • iePolitics: I think we need a part-time state government

This is one of those stories in which I am tempted to do a commentary for Examiner but for now will just vent here.  Anyone who thinks county government is bad needs to deal with the state. I support the part-time state legislature initiative that has or is about to his the streets, but it does not go far enough.  We need a part-time state government.  For that matter I am okay with eliminating most of the state government.

    • Examiner.com: Gov’s appointment shows arrogance for state conflict of interest requirements

(San Bernardino) – California Governor Jerry Brown appointed Dr. Dev GnanaDev to the Medical Board of California on December 21, 2011.  GnanaDev was sworn in on January 9, 2012 according to a staff member at the board’s executive office. A phone call placed Monday to the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) confirmed that GnanaDev has missed his filing deadline for the FPPC Form 700, Statement of Economic Interest, more commonly known as “conflict of interest statement.”   GnanaDev has a history of filing inaccurate or incomplete Form 700s. According to a representative of the board, all new appointees are given instructions about filling out the forms.  A call to the board this afternoon confirmed that GnanaDev has not filed.
