From a reader: McMahon’s Appointment
John McMahon
Well most of the people in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department should be very happy as the chosen one has been given the nod to become the next Sheriff of San Bernardino County. The problem with this is that there still will be no change in the running of the department in any major way.
There will still be the same corrupt internal investigations being conducted by the same corrupt investigators doing as they are told so that they can progress up the ladder as so many have done before them.
Look at some of the most recent investigations that have been brought to the attention of the public. When certain investigators get called to the witness stand they boldly lie about the investigation and when caught nothing happens to them.
Can any normal police officer tell us how they are the investigating officer on a case and still they do not know how evidence was placed or omitted in a case? Well the internal affairs investigators in the Sheriff’s Department sure can shed some light on this issue. And even after lying they are promoted to the next step.
Even officers testifying in civil service hearings get caught lying on the stand, and McMahon was present, and nothing happens to them because of certain relationships. The funny part is McMahon himself testified how important it is to be honest as a police officer. But this policy as many others in the department only apply to a certain few.
Will McMahon change the K-9 policy in this department? No he will not because that is the way that he was raised and it would be going against the grain.
Will McMahon change the promotion process within the department? Again no he will not because then you will be taking away the power of the Staff. Currently there have been approximately 15 promotions to Detective and Sgts from the current list. There have been more people promoted out of group two in both of these classifications than there have been from group 1.
How do you think it makes people feel knowing that they are within the top five percent of the promotion list only to get passed over time and time again. Many times these individuals are passed over only to have to test again. Hoping that they can do as good on the next test to at least get in a position to get promoted.
But you have to realize we have to get all of those favors done first. Then comes the chosen few along with the ass kissers and family members and if any other positions are left maybe you will be lucky to land one of those.
For those of you people who still do not believe this is how the system works and will not change keep your eyes open on the next few promotions and see how close some of these people are to the new Sheriff.
With the appointment of McMahon this leaves at least one deputy chief position available. Keep your eyes on how the current Executive Staff changes are made and see if you can pick out the next Sheriff of this county. The chosen one will be moved to Assistant Sheriff or Under Sheriff and groomed for the next 6 years to take over when John does not want the position any longer.

Not sure but I think they are …. Brett Zour…Dave Johnson…Craig Harris……Vic Moreno….Rob Rose….Jeremy Martinez…Jason Rosenbaum…Mike Smith….John Wickum….Jim Considene…..Shelli Kelley……and then there were four from group 1 leaving at least 4 in that group that have not been promoted. Two of the new promotions have brothers that are Captains on the department and one is married to a former deputy chiefs daughter that is a current Sgt on the department. All in group 2.
So Doc you know for sure 100% that those people you named were not in group 1?
Just Curious you would be doing yourself a favor to read what I said “Not sure but I think they are”…. now being a “Deputy” that has been through an academy you might use some of those investigative skills and figure out what that means….And if you truly are a deputy and have been one for any amount of time you know very well that when the guys get their cards back telling them what group there are in a list is made and past about.
Now being just a “Deputy” maybe you can shed some light on this and tell everyone here what one of those individuals were in group 1 and not in group 2.
And the point that people are attempting to make is that there have been 15 promotions to Sgt and Detective and people have been promoted from group 2 over people in group 1 and I’m sorry that is just wrong and not fair. And I am sorry but I do not know any “Deputy” that would swallow that with a smile if he were passed over and was made to retest knowing people scoring below him were promoted.
But then again maybe you are about to prove me wrong and be that “Deputy” that is in group 1 and gets passed over time and time again and keep that smile on your face and be proud, happy, content and have a great attitude because you just don’t care…..
Just Curious is sure of one thing. He thinks it’s OK to fuck over depiuties and play games with promotions. Hell it’s a big part of the problem at SBSD and this little prick JC comes on here everytime the deputies get shitted on and he thinks that’s OK. This is what McMahon has for us guys and gals. He then has JC come on here and tell us just to shut up and take it. It’s time to tell them to take it. SEBA get off your ass and tell McMahon to fix this or start a recall on this loser.

Well Doc I assume you are at least a Deputy. I would also assume you have some investigative skills too. So maybe you should make sure your facts are straight before you post information that you are “Not sure but I think they are”. Would you put that in a report? I know lot’s of deputies that get passed over and you know what? They continue to do their job and don’t complain. When the list of people in group one for corporal exceeds 150-200 might as well make everyone group one.

@JC….Again you prove that you are dumber than dog turds. The reason why I said that was because those I referred to told others that they were in group 2. Now if they were in group 1 I am sure that they would have bragged about that and told everyone.
One of those relatives would not advsie anyone what group he was in but was very upset when he got his card. You would have no reason to be upset if you were in group 1 unless you did not want to get promoted and if that were the case when you get the call you can always say, “thanks but no thanks”.
And if your boys would make a list from 1 to 200 and place people on that list according to their scores you could eliminate those groups. Or maybe you could even keep the groups but you would only receive the names in group 1 and once they were promoted you could then get the names of those in group 2 starting with the ones with the highest scores.
But I know that this is impossible because then you would be forced to promote people who earned the promotion first instead of the “Good Ole Boys”.

Get over it. It is not uncommon for people of any police agency to be passed up for promotion based on a “list.” I can tell you a lot of people that test high and come out well in a testing process but are worthless as cops and should never be promoted. If somebody in group two is better suited to be promoted than someone in group one, than so be it. We all know people that placed in group 1 that should never be promoted. And to the ones that say yea the ass kissers get promoted, some advice. Go do your damn job, stop whining, stay out of trouble, and do some police work and maybe you too will get promoted.
@ James MIlls Get over it? That may be easy for you to say, but I have been busting my ass to get promoted for many years. I don’t have any relatives in the department, and expect to be promoted on merit. When your told to get on the “Cert List” and get passed over that’s complete bullshit!. There are allot of Deputies and Detectives who don’t have a blemish on their record or have been arrested that are being passed over. Don’t even try to say the Executive Staff only pick those who are qualified. I too am sick of SEBA’s inaction when it comes to the promotion process. I don’t see them ruffling any feathers anytime soon as most of them don’t want to hurt their chances of promotion.
I mean have NOT been arrested. Those that HAVE been arrested have been promoted. Wielenga, Flores, Lopez, Catalano….etc

So under your thought process all of the Captains, Lts. and Sgts. that give these guys their evaluations are wrong. The evaluation weights 60% of the test score. Now your buddies are the ones that devised the form and categories that these guys are rated on. And they are rated by the supervisors that they work for. So if a guy is a lump of shit and does not do his job, is in trouble, is a whiner and has no clue what police work is all about why then is he getting the push by his staff. Without the push he could max the test and still not get into group 1 or sometimes into group 2.
And also under your theory people like Catalano (read the latest article) would never stand a chance of getting promoted but somehow he made it to group 3 this year and even has a chance of getting promoted…Can you explain that, James?
And by the way every promotion that you received…if you are Joe Henry… was from a list 1 through whatever. So what would you know about being in a higher group and getting passed over.

I work for an agency that publishes the “list” so every deputy, corporal, detective, and sergeant knows exactly where they are grouped. Based on where you agreed to work when you tested, the executive staff does pick and choose from the list. However, they can’t reach beyond a certain amount of people and/or groups until the people in those groups have been promoted.
Sounds to me like SBSD doesn’t publish a list and everything is a secret and all speculative when it comes to promotions. That only causes mistrust and confusion when it comes to the promotion process.

I have never said I was a fan of the promotional process…I don’t like it…but I’m not complaining either…SEBA is a weak ass Union and it will be like this until someone wants to file a lawsuit…well that ain’t going to be me, because I enjoy what I’m doing and if I promote well awesome, If I don’t well the thats ok…Unless you are going to do something about it, then stop complaining because thats all you’re are doing…

If JC is Paul Cook it would sure be the pot calling the kettle black. Someone overheard Paul Cook throwing a temper tantrum over the fact that Joey got the position of Assistance Sheriff over him. That’s the second time hair lip has been passed over for a promotion. Well goofy how does it feel now. You a little pissed because they won’t promote you. Read the articles that your buddy James Mills posted. Are you one of those people who should never get promoted or are you one of those that test high but are worthless as being a cop? One would have to ask themselves that question.
Paul Cook has been crying for years about things that did not suit him. For him to come onto this blog and tell deputies or anyone to stop whining is crazy. I was told he was so mad that the Rangers were unable to get him appointed to Sheriff that he was told to go home for a while until he could calm down.
The word too is the Rangers have lost a lot of juice and McMahon is a Ranger like Hoops, but there was a big split on making the Sheriff’s appointment because of Cook. Fonzi got one in the back by Cook too, but it back fired and burned some bridges. Now we still have others that did mot play ball for McMahon and you will see them leave.
Beemer was also called to tell Cook to stop whining, another whiner telling someone not to whine.
The truth is you have a bunch of crybabies that are not leaders and should never been placed in leadership positions. This is what it looks like when promotions are done with-in a Good-old-boy system.
SEBA said they will now ensure we have an open and fair promotional system. What happened with this last promotion list?

Also when McMahon got sworn in, very few SBSD sworn there. Big Mama never stood up when others did. Hoops was there with DA Ramos both looking very stupid. I am not sure if McMahon realized he was sworn in. I think he was wondering when he must renew his Idaho plates.
The absence of a lot of executive SBSD staff tells the story. There is some back fighting going on. They brought in SBSD volunteers and some county employees to help fill the room. I was told some were told to be there. It made it look like a packed house. I thought they brought in some homeless guy and it was Beemer. No press there unless Wert counts?
Mr. Walker and the CAO looked like they were in a love fest. Giggles all around.
All in all it was pretty gross.

The question is whether the new sheriff will continue the cause of Hoops by prosecuting 11 year-old-girls in Rancho Cucamonga for injuring someone playing Dodgeball? Will he carry out the tradition of going after these notorious gradeschool gangsters?
He was instrumental in trying to screw over a deputy for “attempting to steal a lighter” (no joke and yes the deps back to work)
He was instrumental for trying to screw over a deputy for “failing to report” (this classic case involved management, mcmahon himself, and other rank officials that went unpunished) case pending
He was instrumental in screwing over a deputy for “failing to pass a wpip and falsification of warning citatation” (this case is the most ridiculous out of them all. those involved in trying to screw this deputy over with fasle evidence are in federal court. mcmahon being one of several)
So make your own decision on that one
Just remember, Hoops wanted him to be sheriff. That says it all. Same rats run the same game.
