Admin: Below is one of many pieces that has been sent to me for the blog over the past few weeks. I have not had time to deal with any of it but wanted to get this one up for tomorrow. I promise to try to get some others, especially the Havasu pieces, up soon. I just don’t have enough hours in the day lately.
As we are all aware of Rod Hoops has decided that this job that he was handed is a little too tough to do when your defaults are brought forward. So he has decided to do as Sheriff’s before him and leave office prior to his term ending and appoint the hand-picked favorite. As has been reported before the Rangers and the Sheriff’s Council have approved this move, not the voters of this county.
Rumor has it the Rangers have approved this move as long as their chosen one, Paul Cook, is promoted to Assistant Sheriff.
Although Paul Schrader was the second highest vote getter in the last election he does not have the support of the Rangers. As a matter of fact the group is running scared because they know if an outsider takes over there job positions are in danger. There is no real purpose for their existence, or the existence of the Sheriff’s Council. They are a bunch of high dollar individuals running around the county in possession of Reserve Deputy Badges doing what they want to do. The Rangers have no real training to hold their positions except for some elbow bending sessions at local gatherings.
I read an article recently where Rod Hoops stated that John McMahan is more than capable of running the department as he is in charge in his absence.
This raises several questions; the most obvious is why the department has an Under Sheriff. Can the department save money and eliminate this position or one of the Assistant Sheriff positions. Rumors are the current Under Sheriff is not happy and is off of work and is about ready to file for a medical retirement over this issue with hand picking the current successor. Too many, appointing McMahan Sheriff is like a Captain going on vacation and not allowing his Lt to run the show and instead appointing a Sgt to run the ship. This does not seem like good business.
There are some who support a change in the department because they are fed up with all of the crap going on here and it will not change by handing the gavel to a hand chosen successor.
Bushey is a good chose but may not be what is needed. Remember he worked here before and has worked with a lot of the current chosen ones so what will he do with them? A person like Paul Schrader can come into the department with open eyes and do what is necessary. He owes no one anything and that is what is needed.
Recently a person (WTF) posted a comment about Schrader advising a citizen to file a P Form on a detective because of what that Detective had done. Well let’s look at that situation.
A Detective shows up at a citizen’s residence to ask them a few questions. The Detective has two FBI agents with him but everyone refuses to tell the citizen why they are there. When asked for their names the detective supplies his name but the FBI agents refused to do so. WTF (Ha Ha) do you guys have to hide. Maybe the fact that you were there for intimidation purposes only to support your little buddy. The citizen got tired of your crap, turned around and walked away. Because you did not have any probable cause to be there you had to tuck your tail between your legs and walk away.
Now you want to come in here and talk trash about Schrader because he advised the citizen to file a P Form on you if the citizen felt that they were done wrong.
Well my little friend that’s how the system works. And if McMahan does not move you from that cushy position that you currently are occupying then he is not different than the others before him.
More important maybe you should first of all clean up your own backyard before placing someone else under the bus.
Get that wife in check before you start something with Schrader. She has never had any problems going behind her supervisors backs to their boss’s to talk crap about them. Has been doing that for quite some time and it’s about time you put her in check. Sounds like you don’t like people who complain yet you have one of them sitting right next to you. What’s the matter are you afraid she won’t do the reports that you seem to get behind on anymore. That should not matter to you in the division you are currently in, they take no paper. They just do those sneaky little follow-ups and the brass’s dirty work.
If you want it all out there WTF make sure your back yard is clean before crapping in someone else’s.

The first part of this article clearly suggests there is UNREST upstairs on the second floor of Sheriff’s Headquarters.
It won’t be the first time. The recent problem of Paul Cook having Captain Marnati write up the wife of a Deputy Chief for what appears to be a simple misunderstanding tells a story.
A power struggle is in progress, or pay back to someone seems to be the situation. NOTHING new with the regime.
John McMahon has several issues to deal with RIGHT now that will tell the world if he is just another appointed CLONE of the “good ol boys”.
I am telling you all, this lying and cheating on personnel matters is OUT OF CONTROL.
Isn’t it cool that a bunch of old men like the Rangers and Sheriff’s Council are really deciding who is going to be the next Sheriff, NOT the people of San Bernardino County?
Funny how ALL the “good ol boys” including SEBA backed Rick Roelle for district supervisor and he LOST. THERE is hope is my point on that.
But I fear Lovingood is going to fall into the same crack that others have since he in actuality is the minority voice. Time will tell thats for sure.
Remember how the regime followed Bill Postmus around when he first ran for district supervisor attempting to get ANY dirt on him that they could?
Bill held no grudges once he got into office, everyone hugged and moved on with the corruption as usual.
The experience inexperience thing the minions throw out about McMahon vs Schrader has become laughable.
Yes lets appoint another guy who is as much a part of the historical problems of 3 former Sheriff’s as anyone.
At the least, he has turned a blind eye to so many things he is GUILTY of PC 32.
And those who support that and ignore that are CROOKS themselves, or have the potential to be one if the situation should arise.
But in reality those supporters motives are nothing but self serving.
They are hoping to get something from McMahon, just look at Paul Cook and that explains the story.
I read Johnny Mac’s letter right along with Schraders and Bushy.
Mac’s letter was the LEAST impressionable of all 3. But Mac didn’t need to write a novel, he already knew he had the job so why waste the ink and be held accountable for written promises you have no intention of keeping.
I met a young Sergeant a couple months ago. I have met many in my day, some outstanding ones, some not so outstanding.
I was struck by this guys motivation for change, for the good of the department and the people he serves.
His sharp wit, no nonsense response to questions was impressive.
His “do the right thing” attitude was over whelming. So much so I can only think a guy like this will get a TARGET put on his back at somepoint if he doesn’t already have one.
I know a few other Sergeants who have met that fate over the years.
His concern for the men and woman he supervises showed a true leader in the making.
I eventually asked him if the problems within SBSD needs a person with an education to fix, he laughed and said, “common sense” is all one needs to fix most of the problems that we are facing.
Those of us paying attention know that to be true.
For a guy who had never been in the military, he displayed some serious leadership skills that were second to none.
He assured me, that many had reached their limit on the inner goings on within SBSD, that a few have brought this department to the brink of implosion.
My point in this post is simple, I have only met a handful of a higher rank that displayed this attitude EVER.
I thought how lucky so many could be to have the majority of supervisors like this guy and a couple of others I met like him. But SO few are out there.
Do I know for sure he can walk the walk, NO!!!
But he dang sure is a better used car salesman if nothing else, I’d buy a car from him, quicker than I would McMahon.
Who have I met with a similiar attitude for doing the right thing from a common sense standpoint, Paul Schrader.
Just getting back to the basics of leadership, being fair to all, handling your business as you know how it should be done, does NOT take a Harvard degree to accomplish.
The only thing McMahons minions can point to is his alledged experience, but they can’t point out ONE SINGLE thing McMahon has done to show he will walk the walk.
I have personally observed so far, McMahon is going to ignore some glarring issues just like his previous boss.
Hopefully we will nail him like we did Hoops in the Parkinson matter.
Johnny Mac has to many people to please and promises to keep with the corrupt ones.
Mac will forget something somewhere and it will be a serious mistake.
When Hoops was appointed, then ran for Sheriff, the DIRT out in the public eye was minimal.
Just wait until the Travis Bauer matter is over and ALL the garbage that comes out of that will be PUBLIC information.
OH YES Johnny Mac has his fingerprints all over that pile of dung. Seems McMahons AWESOME is experience is lacking in that issue alone.
Thanks to Travis, Mrs P, and a few others a REAL education for those who care has come forth on what SBSD brass are all about.
Thanks to a REAL law firm handling business as they are, they have EXPOSED some serious issues that guys like, JC and Highway, SEBA reps and their lawyers from SHS WILL NEVER explain away or be covered up AGAIN.
No Johnny Mac is being appointed because some think he will do a better job of covering crap up than Hoops did.
The only difference between McMahon and Hoops is, McMahon looks better in a suit than Hoops.
John can shake a hell of a lot of hands in a shorter period of time than Hoops can, I saw that for myself.
McMahon still might win the election, but there is ALOT more steam in the engine this time around than there was 3 or so years ago.

Josie and the board did a great job today. They said she interviewed the DA, SBSD (executives), SEBA and by magic John Mac’s name was the only name coming up. Josie said she was proud she did not interview anyone else. But since McMahons name was the only name coming up from this group he must be the right man.
I know when anyone goes for a job, they do not turn in an application, they allow the employer to ask members of the company what is the qualifications for the job until a name is hatched. NOT!!

I was at the board today. Supervisor Gonzales asked McMahon something to the effect of had he asked to be considered for the job of Sheriff and he said no. She then asked if he was willing to serve. Funny, if he never asked, then why did he submit a statement to SEBA? Wow, they are off to a great start huh?

Bland, Tidwell and Williams, as all previous Sheriffs, served their full terms. The UnderSheriff has always made it clean he had no interest in being Sheriff. He was not passed over and there is no animosity. McMahon was the most qualified and that is why the Board appointed him.
Finally, I seldom read this blog because most of those who contribute are ill informed idiots. If you work for the department and hate it so much my advice is to get out. The department and the people of San Bernardino County do not need you!

I was sick when six new sergeants and six new corporals gat promoted right after Mac got APPOINTED. Same old crap guys and gals. Leadership with out of state plates. Maybe the CHP wil give John Mac a break.

Just Said did you know that there are still people in Group 1 in both Sgt and Detective catagory that have not been promoted. Yea Doc that sure seems to be the case with recent promotions, but it’s been that way for as LONG as I can remember.

Sometimes the unknown is more attractive than the known. For those unhappy with Hoops or McMahon ANYONE would be attractive. I get that. What I don’t get is the cheerleading for Schrader as the best possible alternative. At the end of the day, he is simply a deputy sheriff, unqualified to run a $500 million department. It’s easy to sit back and say what great things you can do for the department, quite another to do them.
If you look at the department as a mid size business and the sheriff as C.E.O., appointing a deputy to be sheriff, is akin to appointing a bank teller as C.E.O. of the bank. In Schraders case it would be like making a Chase Bank teller C.E.O. of Bank of America.
Is change needed? Perhaps, but at least do like Orange County did and get a Division Chief (Sandra Hutchens) from LASD. Schrader is probably a pretty good dude and I’m not disparaging him. He is simply unqualified. The fact that his own department has never promoted him is telling.
Any political consultant will tell you, if you want to unseat the incumbant, you need to bring a well funded, viable contender with strong credentials and political support. The first part of your statement says it all, the unknown. You said by your statement you do not know Paul Schrader.
There are many mid sized companies that find people just like Paul Schrader to run their company. It’s easy for you to sit back and say how great McMahon is. If this was a company he would have been fired along with Hoops and the rest of the executive group years ago. They would have pressed charges on some of them.
If you want to compare SBSD to a company, there would be many other managers fired.
Schrader has an impressive background but someone like you cannot get around the word DEPUTY. Get over it. If you have someone like Paul Schrader that can do the job, he will get in.

Yes I have been in LE for a long time. I would say there are lots of cops that are JUST cops that could do the job as sheriff or chief. Why, because they will do their job and make the tuff decisions just like those at that position do. Command staff have as we know and I hate to say it, kissed up more than the regular cop.

Unfortunately command level experience has NOT worked around here for several decades. Feel free to explain how that isn’t so.
John McMahon has not used his command level experience thus far to accomplish anything NOTEWORTHY. YES I guess you can say give John a chance cause he just got on board, BUT John has been on board this train for quite sometime.
Just common sense decision making has been avoided. An example would be the recent promotions. John should have promoted EVERYONE is group 1 for Sergeant, then went to group 2.
That alone might have ALERTED those paying attention that CHANGE might be on the horizon. What John did was tell many it is BUSINESS as usual.
John’s letter suggests business as usual since he addressed just a couple of issues that needed to be addressed.
And SB County did not SEEK qualified candidates for appointment to the position of Sheriff, say like Orange County did after the Corona debacle.

Sgt sorry but you are wrong about SEBA. They attempted to talk to the command staff about changing the way that promotions are completed and they said they, including the new sheriff, are happy with the current system and have no intention of changing it. I bet this surprises you……..you know new sheriff, new changes ….. new ideas….. yea sure.
And yes Sgt I know of two guys that were in group 5 and bigger than crap were promoted to Sgt from that group. One of them make a deal that he would retire after one year as a Sgt, all he wanted was extra retirement. Well he did not hold his end of the bargain and stayed for another 4 years and they would not let him out of the jail system so he finally retired and is currently making just over $100,000.00 per year.
Mrs P, I have given a copy of Hoops depo to a couple of people, they can use it as they see fit.

SEBA is not happy with the current system so they wanted it changed. The Staff said “No”…. so they are not pushing the issue.
I think SEBA must monitor everything McMahon is doing. The promotion thing he just did was bad for the line staff. If SEBA fails to standup to McMahon we need a new association. I can’t stand McMahon he is a two faced. Most of you that know him can atest to that fact if you will tell the truth.
ACU, I am happy to know the Depo is being put to good use. Keep using it however you and the rest see fit. One of my goals was for this not to happen to anyone again. Another goal was to get the truth out to the average guy in the Department about what was done to Duane. Another goal was to let anyone that helped Taryn Stout know that his family knows the truth. His children know the truth of the behavior of some of Duane’s alleged “friends”. Nobody fooled anyone. I hope anyone that helped her feels ashamed of themselves and knows that what they did is not honorable for a law enforcement officer to do to one of their own “brothers”. Maybe I have done a bit to accomplish these goals.
I would have thought SEBA would be interested in it too. After all their stated purpose is to work for the rank and file(yeah right). And, considering the alleged relationship someone on the board claimed to have had with Duane, I would have thought they would be interested too.
