What happened today in Connecticut is almost incomprehensible. How do you look into the eyes of a child and then blow them away? We can only imagine what goes thru the mind of someone so intent on causing harm.
But the harm was the result of a very disturbed human being. He would have found another way had he not had access to a gun.
In President Obama’s comments he named many of the recent mass shootings and said we need to take the politics out of a solution. In other words, this would not have happened if we had gun control.
I am not a gun nut, but I do believe strongly in the Second Amendment. That being said, this is not a “gun” issue but a “lack of morality” issue and a “lack of dealing with mental health” issue.
At this point we do not know what was going on in this man’s mind, but clearly someone who is not feeling at the end of his rope or is so full of anger about his circumstances or perceived circumstances would do such a thing. It is bad enough he killed his parents, but 20 innocent children is beyond belief.
As a nation we need to wake up and admit the root causes of such tragedies . . . and DEAL WITH THEM. But then we might offend someone and that would be tragic.

Okay, what are the root causes?
Guns don’t kill people, people do! We don’t need gun control. We need PEOPLE control!!
One the saddest days EVER, and NONE of us will forget very soon.
To target children is beyond evil and explanation.
Those of us who have dealt with death, NEVER forget the little ones who have succumbed to it no matter what the cause.
I feel for all in Newton, those of us who have seen the grief upon a parents face at the loss of a child will NEVER forget their pain.
I feel MOST for the investigators who will have to spend WEEKS putting this horrific incident together on paper so the world will know the facts of this tragic day.
Only when their work is done, can they even begin to deal with their emotions.
Working hours in a crime scene like this one is the worst possible situation for any human being to endure.
When will the 9/11′s stop is the question, and the answer unfortunatly is NEVER.
“He would have found another way had he not had access to a gun”
Another way?
What “other way” is so efficient, so portable, so easy to acquire, so easy to conceal, so precise in its target?
Can people here name any other device that allows a person to stand face to face with 20 6 year olds AND rip their bodies to shreds?
A knife? An adult would have been able stopped such a knife attack.
A bomb? The attacker could not stay in proximity and live through the deed of one, not to mention 20.
Poison? Too long to act and not violent enough.
If indeed, “another way” of equal utility is equally available for such derangement , then it must also be available to service whatever is the Constitutional Right “to bear arms”.
And so, I conclude that the easy availability of guns indeed is a factor in such events.
That being said, it is clear that deficits of mental health screening and treatment, and a culture that lionizes violence as opposed to peace, especially violence by young males, is also a highly significant factor to these horrors.
So what is your answer to this tragic dilema Fritz?

Just a coincidence?
That was very well said fritz. And so was your recent comment to Mrs. Parkison.
