Examiner.com: Animal welfare advocates are on the offense in support of Hayden Act

Truman

(Los Angeles) – Governor Jerry Brown’s recent proposal to eliminate significant portions of the Hayden Act as part of the budget process has stirred up a hornet’s nest and reinvigorated animal welfare advocates. His proposal would reduce the holding period for lost pets from up to six days to only three days before they could be euthanized.

What started out slowly has now turned into a multi-faceted campaign to lobby the governor and state legislators against the proposed changes. Advocates have pulled out the big guns, such as Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and Nathan Winograd, to gain additional exposure.

iePolitics: Now for the rest of the story

Writing for the Examiner has been a bit of an eye opener.  Writing about something I am very familiar with comes easy most of the time.  Writing about something I am not so familiar with is way less fun.

When I read stories in the various newspapers, I rarely put the paper down and think to myself, “Wow, that reporter was thorough.”  And that is because, generally, we get half of the story, if that much.  I admit it is pretty hard to do a thorough story when one really doesn’t understand it and is not involved in it himself or just trying to sell newspapers. iePolitics: As the Uffer trial approaches . . . it’s getting uglier and uglier

County Employees have had enough of the Board of Supervisors and their total lack of caring about the rank and file staff.  Every day these employees are on the front lines trying to provide services to the residents of the County.

Current leadership has absolutely no clue as to what goes on in the daily life of a County employee.  Many employees disliked the former CAO but at the same time many knew that he understood what they did each day.

Examiner.com: San Bernardino city clerk candidate wins by two votes

(San Bernardino) – For those who think their votes do not count in the city of San Bernardino, they better think again.  Georgeann“Gigi” Hanna, at least for now, is the new city clerk, and she won the election by a margin of two votes.

In the race to replace retiring city clerk Rachel Clark, Hanna received 6066 votes.  Her opponent, Amelia Sanchez-Lopez, received 6064 votes.

Certified election results will be provided by the county registrar’s office on Monday, but Hanna isn’t waiting to get started.  “I’ve prepared to hit the ground running. The challenges will come as they will, and we will respond accordingly, but the work of the city clerk’s office continues nonetheless,” said Hanna in a written statement.
