Mike Morrell: Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association Endorses Mike Morrell
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, longtime protector of taxpayers’ rights, has announced their support for businessman Mike Morrell for 63rd State Assembly District.
“We believe Mike will be an excellent representative for taxpayers,” the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association said in a statement regarding their endorsement.

iePolitics: Can you resend the emails?
I’ve lost two emails on Sheriff’s Department misdeeds. Can you please resend them?
The first is on the deputy, out of Victorville I believe, who beat the crap out of a relative of a CHP officer. There is more to the story but I can’t remember it. I believe it happened in the Cajon Pass and I believe this deputy was allowed to stay on patrol.
The second is the deputy who was caught with sticky fingers. Unlike Captain Gray, he was charged with a felony. Only difference is this deputy stole only hundreds of dollars, not thousands. I believe he was fired but I’m not sure.

Whited: Sergeant Gina Perez: One hot mess after another…
We all know some Sergeant’s were never meant to be a sergeant; however those will probably never promote either. How does one like Gina Perez get to a job like this? 4 years as a “street cop” deputy working Victorville, then sent to the academy teaching “boots” how to “do their job” then thrust into Homicide where she told me it was, “all about my paper,” and now a screwball of a Sergeant conducting “Admins” without knowing what she is doing…least we mention all the policy, POBR, law enforcement code of ethics- violations she has done over the past 14 months.
Gina Perez you are incompetent, you have no integrity, no honor, and I have seen better leadership at a Boy Scout meeting. The county is losing money keeping her in this position.

Senor Blogger: Hypocracy in the Sheriff’s Department too
Recently we have all been reading about problems within the Sheriff’s Department. Although the majority of these issues are not major problems some of them are.
When a person becomes a Peace Officer they take an oath which is known as the “Law Enforcement Code of Ethics”. In that code is a line that states “Honest in thought and deed in both my personnel and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my Department”.

iePolitics: Integrity questioned
The concept I am writing about is hardly new to iePolitics. What is new is that I am going to relate it specifically to the discussions we have been having about morality in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
I will ask a question I have asked more than once on this blog. If a man (or woman) is willing to break the most important covenant given to him by God, then why should we expect any higher degree of integrity or morality on lesser issues? The covenant of which I write is, of course, that of marriage.

iePolitics: Update on the Guasti Command Post Incident
I have now received multiple confirmations that the incident did in fact take place. I am still trying to verify some of the other participants, but a number of sources have stated that besides for then-Captain Hoops, San Bernardino County Supervisor Paul Biane was also present and among those drinking and having sex with the women. I am still trying to nail down an exact date so we can do a California Public Records Act request on the call logs, etc. I am told that Sheriff’s deputies were complaining about the incident but Hoops silenced them.

Supervisor Derry,
The POST issue aside, which we know will never be prosecuted like it should, have you been reading any of our posts regarding the issues with deputies and much higher ups within the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department committing crimes? The story below is a perfect example of why we have such an issue with your response that you support Sheriff Hoops.
You speak of the culture of corruption in San Bernardino County. I have worked for the county of San Bernardino for 30 years, including a number of years in the upper echelons of county government. The Board of Supervisors and County Administrative Office I worked for did not come close to being anywhere near as corrupt as the current BOS/CAO and two of those I worked for were charged with federal crimes, with one going to federal prison. I can only hope that the FBI does as thorough an investigation as it did the last time. I’ve seen enough to believe our current CAO and at least one board member belongs in federal prison as well.

Scott Folkens: Arizona 1070 and tax increases
1) Today I joined dozens of American Patriots outside of Joe Baca’s office showing our support for Arizona’s law 1070. The fact that 1 activist judge can overthrow the will of the people shows the need for major judicial reform!! Our Founding Father’s never wanted the Judicial Branch to legislate from the Bench. And for Judge Bolton to even pretend that Arizona’s law is unconstitutional gives evidence as to why the Founders believed that Congress should have the power of impeachment over judges who obviously are trampling on the will of the people.

InlandPolitics: Oops! LA County District Attorney investigating Bell since March
Yes, Attorney General Jerry Brown repeatedly claims he’s all over the City of Bell salary scandal.
Brown’s office has subpoenaed thousands of city records. He’s giving city officials twenty-four hours to turn them over.
Otherwise one can infer search warrants will be the order of the day.
But, maybe Brown should have checked with Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley before embarking on his politically charged grand standing.
Yesterday Cooley revealed his office has a wide ranging investigation into Bell to include election fraud in addition to the salary issue. An investigation that started last March.

A little less than two weeks ago California Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown was poking at Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman over the millions she had spent to date, and the fact he still had a 5 point lead in a recent poll.
Remember the invite Meg to tea comment?
Then came last Wednesday. The widely respected Field Poll had Whitman and Brown in a statistical tie. Brown stopped laughing.
So much for that lead. A lead Brown will likely never see again.

We are getting very close to the statute of limitations running on the defendants in the POST scandal and no charges have been filed by San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos. We are getting very close to the statute of limitations running on former San Bernardino County Supervisor Dennis Hansberger and staff for the destruction of official records when he left office and no charges have been filed by San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos. We are perhaps not as close to the statute of limitations running on Grand Terrace City Councilwoman Bertha Bea Cortes. but still after the complaint being in the hands of San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos for many months, no charges have been filed.

In the aftermath of the announcement that District Attorney Mike Ramos’ team failed miserably to prove that Rex Gutierrez participated in a conspiracy or lied on his time card, there was one little-noticed comment that stood out.Assistant District Attorney Jim Hackleman, Mike Ramos’ appointed hatchet man, accidentally confirmed a suspicion many San Bernardino County residents had suspected for many months. Hackleman was asked by the media if the DA’s Office would seek a re-trial of their failed and costly conspiracy case and his comments were very telling. Hackleman proved just who was driving this wild political investigation when he said, “We’re going to sit down with our partners in the Attorney General’s office and will thoroughly review and refine our case with them.”

As I read various blog comments and accounts of Rancho Cucamonga City Councilman and former San Bernardino County Assessor employee Rex Gutierrez’ corruption trial and non-verdict, I realize the magnitude of what happened Wednesday is lost on most. Let me explain.
The District Attorney pulled out all stops to keep this case from going to trial any sooner than necessary due to his re-election campaign and fear certain information might come out during the trial. Gutierrez refused to waive time further. The District Attorney used every procedural delay available and the trial did not commence until the last possible moment. Fred Karger: Californian’s Against Hate
Editor’s Note: This is a mailing list I ended up on I suspect due to the post I wrote about Chris Lancaster. For the record, in addition to ET, Al Vogler, and Barb Stanton, Assembly District 59 candidates Chris Lancaster, Ken Hunter and Tim Donnelly all participated in one aspect or another of the very bigoted campaign against Anthony Riley and/or Corey Calaycay. I’ve got the emails to prove it in case they try to deny it. Anyway, I really don’t hate Mormons. I have always had a lot of respect for them. But I had a huge issue with both Chris Lancaster, who is a Mormon, and Tim Donnelly, who I don’t believe is Mormon, preaching God and then participating in such hateful work.

Fox News: California Primary Bucks the Trend
By Christian Whiton
Published June 09, 2010
In Tuesday’s California primary elections, the state bucked the trend elsewhere where conservative candidates have been ascendant. The two big GOP nomination races, for governor and U.S. senator, were won easily by Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina. They both trounced more conservative rivals in elections marked by surprisingly low turnout in this year of the tea party. The primary reason: money.
Whitman flooded a primary opponent who sought to reduce California’s sky-high taxes on businesses and individuals. She committed an estimated $71 million of her own funds. Fiorina, who spent at estimated $5 million of a personal fortune, amassed 57 percent of the vote and easily defeated conservative state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, a west coast version of Florida’s Marco Rubio, and fiscally conservative former Congressman Tom Campbell. Seattle Times: South Carolina’s Democratic nominee as mysterious as his victory

The Washington Post
Alvin Greene holds his own personal copy of his campaign flier in his South Carolina Senate race.
MANNING, S.C. — Alvin Greene never gave a speech during his campaign to become South Carolina’s Democratic nominee for Senate. He didn’t start a website or hire consultants or plant lawn signs. There’s $114 in his campaign bank account, he says, and the only check he ever wrote from it was to cover his filing fee.
During a three-hour interview, the unemployed military veteran could not name a single thing he’d done to campaign for political office. Yet more than 100,000 South Carolinians voted for Greene on Tuesday, handing him nearly 60 percent of the vote tally and a resounding victory over Vic Rawl, a well-known former judge who has served four terms in the state Legislature.
“I’m the Democratic Party nominee,” Greene said at his father’s rural home in central South Carolina. “The people of South Carolina have spoken. We have to be pro-South Carolina.” Read more…

iePolitics: Is Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt the “next one to be taken out”?
I have to hand it to Al Vogler, Barb Stanton, ET Snell and their handful of supporters. Yesterday’s primary marked the second major election in a row where this small, but vocal, group has managed to take out a well-financed candidate they do not like. Two years ago they focused on Hesperia City Council candidate Mark Kirk, handing him a third-place finish. This year their objective was to keep Anthony Riley out of the state Assembly. And they succeeded.
We hear that Al and company now have their sights set on First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt. In the afterglow of their most recent accomplishment, today Al has apparently been bragging about his past success with Postmus, Kirk and Riley and future plans for Mitzelfelt. One must remember that Supervisor Mitzelfelt handed Rita Vogler, Al’s wife and Hesperia City Council member, a humiliating loss in the June 2008 primary, so this has the potential to become even more personal. iePolitics: Mudslinging Versus Telling The Truth
Someone asked if revealing Don Kurth’s background isn’t mudslinging and therefore unethical. This is how I would answer that question about any candidate.
Anyone who applies for a job goes through a background check. The potential employer is allowed to review the results of that background check and determine based on those results if the applicant is suited to be hired.
In the case of an elected official, we the public, are the employers. We have the right to know what is in all candidates’ backgrounds before we elect them to public office. EVERYONE has skeletons in their closet and it is up to us to decide which skeletons we can live with in our elected representatives and which ones we cannot live with.
In the modern political world, well-financed candidates have checks (there is a term for it I’m still too sleepy to remember) run on themselves and their opponents to determine what can be used against them and to find ammunition against their opponents. One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is to try to hide their deficiencies or lie about them when found out. Read more…

iePolitics: The Race for the 59th Assembly District (Republican)
This is the other hotly contest Assembly District race and the more controversial of the two. Its current officeholder is Assemblyman Anthony Adams who was the target of a failed recall effort. There are six candidates vying for our votes.
This race is also “blessed” with a well financed RINO who, unlike Don Kurth, claims to be a Christian. And this “Christian” (or Mormon in reality) along with his campaign consultant Chris Jones (sound familiar?), has conducted the most hate-filled, ugly campaign in San Bernardino County. That candidate is, of course, Chris Lancaster, who has stooped to sending photographers to his opponents’ homes to film their young, underaged relatives, sponsoring an incredibly hateful video, and knowingly sending out lie-filled propaganda intended to induce and inspire bigotry and hatred among voters. Needless to say, Lancaster is undeserving of your vote.

iePolitics: Mike Morrell for the 63rd Assembly District
As a small business owner who has lived and worked in the Inland Empire for over 30 years, I have gained the experience of successfully creating jobs – something our state badly needs in the face of double digit unemployment. I have signed the “No New Taxes Pledge,” and am endorsed by the National Tax Limitation Committee. The California Small Business Association has also endorsed me, because I am committed to spurring job growth and improving the economy by preventing new regulations and reducing the litigation and tax burdens that cripple small businesses. The government must begin living like we do – “within our means.”
I am conservative economically, politically and socially. I have been married to my wife Joanie for 32 years. We are pro-life, support the Second Amendment, and believe in traditional family values. Our daughter Kristen is a graduate of the Focus on the Family Institute, our son David recently graduated from law school, and our youngest, Matt, attends Hillsdale College.
I am concerned that our greatest enemy today is an insidious progressive agenda that weakens our nation from within: economically, politically and morally. The message we hear from progressive leaders is that “government is the solution.” History, however, proves otherwise. Big government is not the solution; rather, it is the problem. As government expands, liberty contracts and freedom is lost. Politicians believe elected office is about “they the government,” and have forgotten those three foundational words written in our Constitution, “We The People.” Read more…

iePolitics: The Race for the 63rd Assembly District
The 63rd Assembly District is one of two hotly contested Assembly seats in San Bernardino County. There are seven Republicans vying for the Republican nomination, six of which are actively campaigning for the seat. They are: Mike Morrell, Paul Chabot, Acquanetta Warren, Pat Gilbreath, Henry Nickle, and Don Kurth.
This was both an easy and hard decision for me, not as to whom to vote for, as I don’t live in the district, but rather whom to support. There are several very well qualified candidates.
There is only one candidate that I do not want to see win and that is Don Kurth. He was a convicted drug felon in his 20s and served prison time. Later in life he has had issues with domestic violence. He has also had some serious financial problems. But more important to me than any of that, Don, along with his campaign manager Jessica Austin, and campaign consultant Chris Jones, has run the single most unethical and dirty campaign in all of San Bernardino County. None of the three of them appear to have any ethics or integrity whatsoever. What they have done is shameful. And it would be shameful if a RINO such as Don Kurth received the Republican Party’s nod. This judicial contest isn’t quite as contentious as the other, unless one is a district attorney. It seems district attorneys believe the only attorneys who should be appointed to the bench are district attorneys. Long-time readers of the blog know the position I have taken on that subject.
Having spent six years as a Judicial Secretary, first with San Bernardino County Superior Court and then with the Consolidated Trial Courts of San Bernardino County, I worked for many new judges. As a San Bernardino County Superior Court Judge, I believe that the eradication of Minor’s Counsel in San Bernardino County is a travesty. To rectify the lack of Minor’s Counsel in family-law courts nationwide, I have established an online discussion forum where family-law judges, attorneys, and advocates can develop a campaign for this vital legislation. Legal professionals are encouraged to join Minor’s Counsel Now!
A case for Minor’s Counsel
While the adults present their arguments before a judge for dissolution, it is not uncommon for a child, completely innocent of malice, to be used as a weapon of manipulation, which adds to the child’s anguish. But, when a child has a voice by way of counsel in the form of a family-law attorney with a background in psychology or social work, the court can more easily recognize divisive deceptions presented by the litigants. The child’s own words can protect and serve as a safeguard from further unnecessary torment. Read more…

iePolitics: The Race for Judge, Office No. 11
Very few election years do we see a sitting judge challenged for his seat. This is one such year.
The challenge revolves around a ruling by Judge Bob Lemkau in a request for a restraining order by mother Katie Tagle. There has been a lot of controversy over whether or not the judge should have granted the restraining order. This one case has created a firestorm rarely seen and many facts about the case have been distorted by those wishing to unseat Judge Lemkau.
iePolitics came out against Judge Lemkau early on based on what was reported in the media. But as the whole story unfolded, it became obvious that Katie has become a pawn for outside interests attempting to promote their own agenda. It is unclear whether or not James Hosking, Lemkau’s opponent, is part of that agenda or not. Read more…

iePolitics: Paul Schrader for Sheriff
There has been a cloud of corruption over the San Bernardino County government for the past decade. So much corruption that even elected officials who have not been involved in any scandals are viewed with suspicion by the citizens of San Bernardino County.
My goal is to give the citizens of San Bernardino County something that is desperately needed; A Fresh Start. That start begins with concerned, responsive elected officials. A Fresh Start with innovative plans and solutions to the challenges we face. Fresh, proactive leadership that will restore faith, hope, and the belief that a better future for our families and our children is not only possible, but is something we can accomplish together. No longer will the citizens of San Bernardino be barred from participating in the design of our future, your voices silenced or unheard. I pledge to you that there will be a Fresh Start in law enforcement, that you will be a part of it, your voice will be heard. Read more…

iePolitics: The Race for Sheriff
There are three candidates running for the office of San Bernardino Sheriff/Coroner, all of whom are Republicans. Current Sheriff Rod Hoops was appointed by the Board of Supervisors last year to replace retiring Sheriff Gary Penrod. San Bernardino County Deputy Sheriff Mark Averbeck was the first to challenge his boss for the top spot. And Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Paul Schrader is also vying for the top cop position.
To a degree, this was one of the toughest races for me to make a decision about and that may surprise regular readers of iePolitics. I believe all three candidates are good men who want what is best for this county. Read more…

iePolitics: Frank Guzman for District Attorney
I seek only to be your District Attorney. I will end the “good old boy” corruption that has undermined the County criminal justice system. I will usher in a new era in San Bernardino County, an era of a professional prosecutor’s office with special allegiances to no one—except the citizens.
The moral and ethical decay that has been pervasive in the office is at an end. Thieving former Sheriffs will not receive special treatment. Campaign contributors will not get special badges. I will not turn a blind eye to any criminal act, regardless of by whom it was perpetrated. I will minister justice evenhandedly. Fighting political corruption does not happen conveniently in the election cycle. The sentry must always be on watch. Read more…

iePolitics: The Race for District Attorney
There are three candidates in this race: Republican incumbent Mike Ramos, Republican challenger Frank Guzman, and Democratic challenger Bob Conaway. My vote went with Frank Guzman and here is why.
Anyway who reads this blog could safely assume I would never vote for Mike Ramos, so that leaves Frank Guzman and Bob Conaway. Either one would make a fine district attorney. However, I voted for Frank for several reasons. Read more…
