Video 53

Paul talked to people around the county regarding Carry Conceal Weapon’s permits (CCW). This video #53 contains information regarding issues with CCW’s in San Bernardino County.

My name is Paul Schrader, and I am running for the position of Sheriff-Coroner of San Bernardino County. My campaign is based on what we call the Fresh Start Initiative. My goal is to bring a Fresh Start to San Bernardino County that the citizens can be proud of, participate in, and see concrete, forward-looking solutions to the problems we face.

Community Responsibility- A Sheriff’s Department that accepts its responsibility to the community, and works with the community to improve
conditions for all.

The other day I was in Chino Hills. I was talking with a guy by the name of John. He said he would like to see the Department executives reaching out to the community, finding out what needs and concerns they have.  He said when he has tried to reach anyone of any rank, he is directed to a patrol deputy.  He is frustrated.

While in Victor Valley I talked to Helen. She had a few of her friends with her. She said she wanted a group to help bring the Department and community together. She said the Department said she could volunteer. She tried to call the Sheriff’s Office and was redirected to a patrol deputy. She does not want to be a volunteer, she would love to be part of a community group that could partner with the Department. She is frustrated.

I hear this throughout the county. Deputies are being utilized to answer questions that should go through Department executives. Our deputies are trying to provide law enforcement services and need tools to do the job even better.

I will have community groups in every area of the county. We will meet and work together, ensuring they are getting service needed in their area. I will be available to citizens. This is being done in Departments all over the State.

Below is District Attorney Mike Ramos’ campaign kickoff.  Note the only member of the Board of Supervisors who attended this huge gathering of supporters here in the high desert.  Although now edited out of the video, the supervisor had glowing remarks for our district attorney.

iePolitics has learned from a well-placed West-End source that the February 10, 2010, incoherent spectacle produced by San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos and California Attorney General Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, charging former Assessor Bill Postmus and former Assistant Assessor Jim Erwin with multiple felonies, including bribery and embezzlement, may have had a much more far-reaching purpose.  And that “purpose” has to do with one unnamed, but very identifiable, John Doe; John Doe No. 1, i.e., Jeff Burum, to be exact.

The underlying scheme of Ramos’ recent interest in “cleaning up corruption in San Bernardino County” is oft-discussed by political insiders.  His crusade came about only after his power base took a major hit due to the defeat of political crony and powerbroker, San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor Dennis Hansberger, by dark horse candidate Neil Derry. Mike is holding a fundraiser at the Cable Airport in Upland on March 16.  I cannot download the flyer, but you can find the information here.

I attended the last fundraiser at the Cable Airport and it is a very cool place.  Mike’s fundraisers and auctions are always interesting.

Everyone keeps asking how to help.  There is one BIG thing every one of you can do to help, not only me, but everyone in this county who has been abused by the system and that is this.  On June 1, 2010 vote for Paul Schrader for Sheriff, Scott Markovich for Second District Supervisor, any opponent of Gary Ovitt’s, and any opponent of Mike Ramos.  These bastards need to be kicked out of office!

I am sick to death of the Sheriff’s Department telling me they are trying to help when they have been one of the biggest contributors to my problems.  HOOPS NEEDS TO GO!  We need a sheriff in there with some integrity.

And we need a Chairman of the Board of Supervisors also with some integrity, including in their chief of staff.  If the only way to get rid of Mark Kirk is to get rid of Gary Ovitt, so be it.

Update: I have Ronald’s e-mail address and will be looking fowards to sharing his press releases and maybe a future interview with him shortly.

Looking at the candidate filing status reports from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters makes me puzzled at some of the people who put their hat in the ring for the June Primary.  Who are these individuals?

For one, I am glad Supervisor Ovitt has a challenger. However it took me a bit of detective work to figure out who is Ronald Wall. Ronald Wall is a Democratic Party activist, but what is Ronald Wall also good for?  I know that San Bernardino County needs to be cleaned up, but how will Ronald Wall clean up San Bernardino County government and represent the fourth district effectively?

In the 32nd State Senate District, the Republican Party has an announced challenger and he is yet another dark horse candidate. Who is Michael T. Bryant from Ontario, California? He used to have his email address listed, but it was taken down when I tried to ask about his candidacy.  I don’t want to end up knocking on his doorstep asking for details about his campaign since he did not leave a phone number, web site or e-mail address.

It would be appreciated for future canidates to have at least a public address even from a place such as hotmail or yahoo so people could offer their support or ask a few questions so they would be informed voters.

If you are any of these individuals feel free to leave a reply on this post, or better yet get in contact with the administration here for an account where you can post your press releases and speeches on how you can make our communities better.

There is about a 95 percent chance that I will become the editor of the San Bernardino County Republican Women Federated newsletter again.  I decided it was better than killing myself.  It will give me something to take my mind off of my problems and somewhere to channel my energy.  If this happens, I hope to get the next edition out as close to March 1 as I can.

So, for all of you that want to contribute an article, here are the rules:

  1. Articles can be no longer than 750 words.
  2. Articles are accepted from registered Republicans only.
  3. Articles cannot focus on your campaigns but rather on issues important to you.
  4. Articles that bash other Republicans will not be published.
  5. A press photo must accompany the article if you have not submitted one in the past or have an updated photo.
  6. A very short bio must accompany the article if you have not submitted one in the past or have an updated version. (See example at the end of each article in the October newsletter:  sbcfrw_newsletter_1009_gm(2).)
  7. Links to your campaign website, Twitter, and Facebooks accounts and contact information, i.e., email address and phone number, can be sent to me and will be included in the newsletter but cannot be included in the article itself.
  8. Articles submitted in .pdf format will not be accepted.   Word, Pages, and generic text are allowed.  They can be submitted in the body of an email or as an attachment.
  9. Articles must be submitted no later than February 27, 2010 via email to info@iepolitics.com.

I will be sending out personal invitations to participate to those whose email addresses I have as soon as I know for sure that I will be the editor again.  I lost my entire email list several months ago, so if you have not received email from me recently, I likely do not have your email address.

I am hopeful this newsletter will be delivered to about 9,000 Republicans countywide.  We are working on developing a list of solid email addresses.  In exchange for the free advertising you will be receiving for your campaigns, we will ask that you forward the newsletter on to everyone in your private email lists.  I hope some of the grassroots candidates comprehend the significance of this.

One observation is becoming increasingly clear on the republican side of the California Governor’s race.

Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner needs to bow out.

There has been countless times in the past where ego has led to the needless waste of millions of campaign dollars in a futile attempt at overcoming poor odds. This is one of those times.

The battle lines have already formed between former EBay CEO Meg Whitman and Attorney General Jerry Brown, who will likely be the democratic nominee.

Whitman has been spending big money to elevate her name identification and it’s working. The runner-up republican candidate Poizner is starting to be ignored, and calls for him to drop out of the race are increasing.

Poizner spending more of his own money isn’t going to do anything.

When you call a press conference to bash your opponent, but the media thinks you’re about to announce you’re dropping out of the race, it’s a bad sign.

This is a good illustration of the difference between my perspective and that of the incumbent auditor / controller.  I believe that government is the problem and not the solution.  Private industry is more efficient, serves the people better and in most circumstances is far superior for improving people’s lives and creating wealth.  As you can see in the article (from the Daily Press) below, Larry Walker seems to indicate bigger government is the solution.

APPLE VALLEY • The man responsible for investing San Bernardino County’s revenue had some advice for people looking for a heads up on what’s driving the economy these days.

“The question is what’s the government going to do, it’s not what the market is going to do,” said Larry Walker, the county’s Auditor/Controller-Recorder. (more…)

I received the following email a little while ago:

Can you tell me what ever has happened to the case involving over 20 Deputies getting college credits when they did not attend the classes. It seems to just have gone away. This is serious because of the lying these people did and the amount of money they have taken from the County.

I asked our resident expert, AntiCorruptionUnit, as he is the one who broke this story, and here is his response:

Yes the case died a quiet death thanks to Sheriff Hoops.  Captain Bart Gray is now retired.  His wife was demoted from her position in the training division and sent back to the jail.

Just another cover up by the Sheriff’s Department. No prosecution if forthcoming in this matter.

So where is our crime-fighting District Attorney?  Oh yeah, political opps with Moonbeam.

I will reserve judgment as to whether I feel Mr. Montgomery or his opponent, a deputy district attorney, is better suited for the bench until I learn more about both.  But having spent much of my adult life working in the criminal justice system and six years of that as a Judicial Secretary for some of this county’s most distinguished judges, I have a few observations. Inland Empire, CA – February 16th, 2010 – 63rd assembly candidate, LT Commander (s) Paul Chabot, announces the endorsement of Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, and Los Angeles County Probation Chief, Robert Taylor.

District Attorney Cooley stated, “I would like to extend my enthusiastic endorsement of your candidacy for California’s 63rd Assembly District. This endorsement is based upon your lifelong record of public service. I’m impressed with your personal values and your life experiences, especially your Iraq military service and your fourteen years in law enforcement. First of all, I was happy to see that the photo was removed from the official’s Facebook page.  I knew it was not something they would allow if they had known it was there to begin with.  Although they are not currently running for public office, I think any politico understands that is not the sort of photo one wants on anything connected with them.  There are a certain segments of the population, especially older folks and the religious right who vote in higher percentages, who would be offended.  Such things can come back to haunt at the most inopportune moments.  Image is everything.

And the necessity of creating a professional image is the real point to this post. (more…)

Months ago some Republican operatives were quietly admitting defeat in the Governor’s race no matter which of the then-three candidates won the Republican nomination.  I didn’t like that defeatest attitude but have slowly resigned myself to the possibility of having Moonbeam as our governor again.  It could be worse as the Governator has proven so I wasn’t too worried.

Now that we have seen Moonbeam in action right here in our own little county, we should all be grateful that Republican hopeful Meg Whitman is starting to grow on voters.  Meg is not the best of orators, but once she receives the nomination, she REALLY needs to debate Moonbeam. (more…)

Sacramento-based sources claim that Senator Robert Dutton (R-31) will throw his hat into the ring to unseat embattled San Bernardino County Second District Supervisor Paul Biane.  Three others, Upland Mayor John “JP” Pomierski, KCAA radio host Peter “Scott” Markovich, and publisher of The Alpenphorn News, Dennis Labadie, have all expressed interest in the seat, with the latter two having already declared their candidacies.

Biane was implicated this week as John Doe 5 in a criminal complaint alleging conspiracy and bribery when San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos filed charges against former Assessor and Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Postmus and former Assistant Assessor and Third District Chief of Staff Jim Erwin. This, combined with other on-going legal issues, opens the door for a likely successful unseating of Biane. (more…)

Good Afternoon,

I am running for the 43rd Dist. (Baca’s Seat) and would love to get your support.

As a strong Republican, I believe our Constitutional Principles, are being threatened by the factions of a Socialist mind and trying to bring balance to a divided House is difficult; however, with conviction of values fixed deep within my soul, I have been “on a mission”, to exalt this position, as set forth by the Oath everyone takes when signing in for the Office.

Why am I interested in such an office, you might ask?

1. The convergence of interest and morality, has brought an enormous disadvantage to Congress, as our Economic Infrastructure wanes in the balance of a once, wealthy nation.

2. The moral and virtuous framework of our freedoms with respect to liberty, justice and the over-all respect of property seems to be by the demand of the current administration and not by the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence.

3. I would like to implement the ethical traditions of our Constitution, which once was the driving force of “EXCELLENCE” in the US. (more…)

District Attorney Mike Ramos

Pathetic.

There’s just no other word to describe it. Well maybe “disingenuous” might work as well.

Does San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos have an honest bone in his body?

Since the re-election window is approaching on the event horizon, our illustrious District Attorney has embarked on taking credit for everything around. Sources tell InlandPolitics this may soon include the invention of sliced bread.

If anything, Ramos prostituting himself around the county is at least entertaining.

This week we were all treated to how Ramos envisioned and implemented the District Attorney Truancy Program. A highly successful program that has dramatically reduced student truancy throughout the county.

As usual, local newspapers fell for the Ramos public relations sham. Gullible Inland newspapers oozed out articles and editorials praising Ramos for his great idea.

Not so fast! (more…)

It seems like this election cycle we have more than the normal amount of challengers in local races.  I suspect that has to do with the fact that so many of us are fed up with the arrogance, greed and lack of integrity of most of our elected leaders.  My friends, those of the political persuasion—y’all know which ones I mean—don’t think any of these candidates stand a chance because they don’t have the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes to fill our mailboxes with an over-abundance of slick campaign flyers.  And much of our more-recent election history proves them right.

That being said, I’m not particularly ready to throw in the towel and sit back while so many completely corrupt incumbents have an easy time of it, spending their war chests on criminal defense and living the high life.  Some of them are incredibly cocky about their expected victories before even knowing the entire list of candidates running against them.  They know they have the big bucks to finance their campaigns if they need it.  We know who they are and who the contributors are who will give them unlimited funds to assure they stay in office. In California, a lot is at stake in 2010. While many in politics tax our lives to the hilt, new candidates speak of “fixing the problems” in Sacramento. But will these same men and women try to fix the problems with more government programs or more public spending?

(INLAND EMPIRE, CA) – The California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA) announced its unanimous support and endorsement of Paul Chabot for the 63rd Assembly. CPCA is dedicated to serving over 1,400 active and retired municipal California police chiefs. Municipal police chiefs are responsible for providing front line law enforcement services to more than 78% of Californians.

“I am grateful and honored to receive the support of the California Police Chiefs Association. Law enforcement leaders are dealing with a number of challenges in today’s climate. They can count on me to fight every single day for public safety and victims rights. Having worn the badge myself for nearly 15-years, I understand and appreciate the very difficult and dangerous job asked of the men and women who protect the thin blue line. A trip to the Registrar of Voters office today was fruitful indeed.  First, we find that the San Bernardino County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer has a hard time meeting accounting deadlines.  His financial statements, which were due February 1, 2010, have yet to be filed with the Registrar’s office.  They checked several “boxes” for me to be sure and there was nada.

Senator Gloria Negrete McCloud also has the same issue.  Not sure if we can chalk it up to laziness, an oversight, or a flagrant lack of respect for the law.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos filed his financials timely.  He shows an ending balance of cash on hand of $393,592.28.  It’s his expenditures that are interesting.  InlandPolitics will have additional information on some of those expenses that we will cross-post here.  But there are others we want to share now. Republicans lose races when we nominate flawed candidates.

In 1998, we nominated Dan Lungren for Governor. The NRA and those supporting the Second Amendment so disliked him, they supported Gray Davis–and Lungren lost by 20 points.

In the 2006 GOP primary, Senator Abel Maldonado was the favorite to win the nomination for State Controller. But, due to his support of tax increases, big government, weak votes on the “life” issue, he lost. His legislative record, even then, was so poor that Assemblyman Tony Strickland was able to easily defeat him. (more…)

I am concerned about the recent “money saving” consolidation of our county’s elected positions.  We were told that this move could save up to one million dollars a year.  Did that take into account the $80,000 worth of raises that were given out as part of this consolidation? ($40,000 to Larry Walker, $30,000 to Dennis Draeger, $10,000 to Rod Hoops).  The raises are unnecessary and unfair.  The county has shed many other jobs, leaving those left behind to work harder and take on more responsibility.  Did they get huge raises?  Our county charter states “no increase shall exceed 4% of the annual salary of the elected official unless submitted to and approved by the voters of the county at a county-wide election.”  Do these raises sound like more that 4% to you?  Does it seem right that the Board of Supervisors can circumvent the spirit of our charter by playing a shell game with the duties?

Some berate us for suggesting that a politician’s personal life is an important indicator of how they will serve in public life  I will continue to argue that a public figure who is incapable of honoring the most cherished covenants between God and man, that of matrimony and parenthood, is equally incapable of fulfilling his obligations to those who elected him to office.  As constituents we cannot expect better treatment from someone who lies and cheats on his family. Peace Officers Research Association of California Endorses Runner for Board of Equalization

SACRAMENTO – Taxpayer advocate and Senator George Runner (R- Antelope Valley) today announced he has earned the endorsement of the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC).

“I am honored to have the endorsement of such a large and distinguished law enforcement organization,” Runner said. “It’s been my pleasure to work with the hard-working men and women in law enforcement throughout my career on such landmark legislation as Amber Alert, Jessica’s Law and Blue Alert.”

With more than 790 member organizations, representing 60,000-plus officers, PORAC is the largest law enforcement association in the state and the largest statewide association in the United States. The organization plays a leadership role in organizing, empowering and representing the interests of rank-and-file peace officers.

This was sent to me by one of the candidates.  It makes interesting reading.  I’m also hearing rumors that Anthony Riley, former staffer for San Bernardino County Chairman of the Board and Vice President of the Hesperia School Board, is also contemplating a run.

The surprise decision by Assemblyman Adams not to seek re-election to the 59th Assembly District has set off a scramble for the sprawling Los Angeles and San Bernardino County seat.

The 59th District contains all or parts of the Eastern Los Angeles County communities of. Los Angeles County communities of Claremont, La Verne, Glendora, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Bradbury, Arcadia and La Crescenta then suddenly goes north through the Angeles Forest and East into San Bernardino to take in the San Bernardino County communities of Apple Valley, Hesperia, Lake Arrowhead, Crestline, San Bernardino, Highland and Mentone. It is a district that makes the case for redistricting reform. (more…)

One of the biggest roadblocks for challengers in any political race is the filing fee required by the Registrar of Voters office. We can help the challengers by signing a petition to waive the fee. For countywide positions, such as Sheriff, Auditor-Controller, District Attorney, Assessor, and Superintendent of Schools, almost 10,000 signatures will be needed and we have less than a month to collect those signatures. If you are interested in helping, or just want to sign a petition yourself, email me at: sharon@iepolitics.com

In order to give challengers in the County a much needed edge, I would like to form an alliance of challengers.  I’ve attached a pdf that briefly describes the purpose and objectives.

SBCPCG

According to the California Board of Accountancy website, Larry Walker is not a CPA in the State of California.   If somebody has other information, please post it.  San Bernardino County spokesman David Wert has been incorrectly claiming that he is. The Recorder’s website says “He successfully completed the CPA exam.”   What does that mean???   He failed it? He passed it, but failed the background check?  I would really like to get to the bottom of this.   If he’s going to control all of our money and be responsible for auditing himself, shouldn’t he be a CPA?

I received an email this morning from Ensen Mason, who will be challenging Larry Walker for the position of Auditor-Controller-Treasurer.  Here is some information about him.

I’m concerned about the direction our County is taking and the priorities exhibited by some of our elected officials and it appears to be getting worse. I feel that we need a change. I am running for County Treasurer as well as promoting other challengers and doing whatever I can to level the playing field between incumbents and challengers.

About my qualifications – I’ve owned a small accounting firm for 22 years, licensed by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent for 18 years, I hold 4 securities licenses and an insurance license. In order to qualify for this position, I will be sitting for and need to pass the CPA exam next month. (more…)
