The ink had not even dried on last night’s post before someone mentioned to me that it appears there is yet another serious candidate for San Bernardino County’s Third Supervisorial District. He has been mentioned here before as a possible contender. And that is James Ramos, Chairman of the San Manual Band of Mission Indians.
San Manual has been conducting a public relations campaign for many weeks with ads on Fox News Cable in San Bernardino County. The areas being targeted are Redlands and Loma Linda—Derry strongholds.
Ramos does not bring to the campaign the level of respect that Paul Cook has but he does have almost unlimited funds to spend on a campaign. He easily could spend a million dollars or more without soliciting from outside sources. On top of the that, San Manual does a great deal of community service within the area, giving the tribe great name recognition.
Ramos is an elected member of the San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees. With redistricting occurring in 2011, it will be interesting to see if the tribal lands are redistricted into the Fifth Supervisorial District.

What an election year 2012 will be. Derry, Ramos and Colonel Cook. Let the games begin!
The more the merrier. Now … who will give Yucca Mesa a MAC? (Derry won’t, that’s for sure.)
