iePolitics: Cleaning Up Corruption or Political Witch Hunt?

The most recent arrests of former San Bernardino County Assessor William “Bill” Postmus and former Chief of Staff to Supervisor Neil Derry, James Erwin, highlights yet again the disparity in treatment by San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos when compared with other jurisdictions. Ramos clearly is attempting to attempting to “punish” those who are political adversaries upfront as he knows the cases against them are weak and convictions are unlikely.

Take a look at the difference between the Postmus/Erwin case and the case of the four San Jacinto City Councilmen who were recently indicted in Riverside County.  The disparity is glaring.

But there is one more factor to consider and that is of the judges who approve the high bails where clearly there is no justification to do so.  Mike Ramos has supported the judges in their attempt to keep the $20,000 benefits package paid to them by the county that Supervisor Neil Derry has tried to end.  Is Ramos received fruits from his other political maneuvering?

San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos:

William Postmus: Charged with 16 felonies, 1 misdemeanor, bail set at $350,000, arrested and booked twice

James Erwin:  Charged with 19 felonies, bail set at $600,000, arrested and booked twice

Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco:

James William Ayres:  Indicted on 148 counts, 51 felonies, 97 misdemeanors, bail set at $25,000, allowed to surrender to post bond without arrest

John Richard Mansperger:  Indicted on 136 counts, 40 felonies, 96 misdemeanors, bail set at $25,000, allowed to surrender to post bond without arrest

Jimmie Dale Stubblefield, Jr.:  Indicted on 135 counts, 39 felonies, 96 misdemeanors, bail set at $25,000, allowed to surrender to post bond without arrest

James Walter Potts:  Indicted on 89 counts, 25 felonies, 64 misdemeanors, bail set at $25,000, allowed to surrender to post bond without arrest

Or here is another recent “political corruption” case tried by Rod Pacheco in San Bernardino County:

Mark Leggio: Indicted on 37 counts, 10 felonies, 27 misdemeanors, allowed to surrender and released OR (without the necessity of posting bond)

  1. Funny you should mention Mark Leggio, isn’t he the one that Mikey elected to defer to Pacheco because he is a campaign contributor to the SBCo. DA, and then Mikey asked for the case back again once he figured out the can-o-worms he had opened? How much money has Jim Erwin and SEBA contributed to Mikey, in the good-old days? What, contribution$ from the employees groups are different somehow? BTW, another one of Leggio’s benefactors, besides Chairman O., is Alan “Ex-Police” Wapner who seems to be in hot water as a Ontario Councilman over a little conflict-o-interest with the Super WalMart project near 6th and Mountain, the old stomping grounds of Chairman O., CAO Devilreaux and John Doe’s #1 and/or #2.

  2. STILL WATERS RUN DEEP!….and connected….I would like hear more on dev’s and ovitts time in ontario…I’m a litte thin on that history

  3. I thought I heard that Dev n’ Neil are related? In laws or something? Didn’t Biane say that a year before the BOS canned Mark he was talking to Dev about Marks job? Did SEBA get support from Colonies, et. al.? Dev certainly know Colonies. Colonies delivers Rex to SBAA, thru Bill. Did Colonies deliver Jim to Bill too? To Neil? Jim as head of SEBA supplies a hugh (400K) donation to Neil and Neil wins BOS, and now SEBA is suing Jim. Jim leaves SBAA under a “cloud” and Neil hires Jim as his COS; because he’s know him for 15 years and he “knows his way around the Fifth Floors halls”.Somewhere in all this, Jim finds time to squeese in a consult job, to get Colonies what they want, Jim and this then “friend” and boss get arrested and charged with alot of felonies, and then that “consult” comes back and takes a nasty bite in the ass, and ropes almost all of the BOS and several of their “friends”into the fray. I’m getting dizzy! Seems Jim is very popular, probably has some great cop stories! You see that last mug shot? Scary! I don’t know, I’m just asking.
